Character

Name: Stoatkit | Stoatpaw | Stoatpad
[Stoat] - For the colouring of his pelt.
          [pad] - Like any WindClan cat, he excels at speed and running. His steps are exceptionally well-placed and quiet.
Clan: WindClan
Age: 29 moons
Rank: Warrior
Gender: Male
Appearance details: A lanky tom with a characteristic folded ear and extremely fluffy (though short) pelt. His rusty red tabby patterning is interrupted by a blotch of white extending from his muzzle and neck, all the way down along his underbelly.

History

|| Kithood ||

Stoatkit was born a single kit to a WindClan queen in an accidental litter, and his biological mother wanted nothing to do with him. The she-cat wanted nothing to do with the life of a queen, wanting much more to remain a warrior, and Stoatkit's appearance, one almost identical to his father, a loner, was enough to drive her away further. He was quickly passed off to a pair of mated she-cats, Briarpatch and Blackbreeze, who named him.  While Blackbreeze remained a warrior, Briarpatch took to the nursery, caring for Stoatkit. Stoatkit was as rambunctious as any other kit, but he tended to follow the orders of the other kits, taking the unwanted roles in any games instead of arguing for something better, though his meeker nature was mostly hidden by a smile that never left his face.

Stoatkit knew that he had been adopted by his current parents, and though he grew curious at times, he was never bitter. Briarpatch and Blackbreeze were the best mothers he could ask for, considering them his real parents instead of his biological ones. Why would he seek out a parent that didn't even want him? He was happy with what he had, and as devoted to his mothers as they were to him.

||Apprenticeship||

When Stoatkit reached 6 moons old, Reedstar selected an older warrior named Strawtail to be his mentor, and was named Stoatpaw. Both got along well, and Stoatpaw was well taught, but neither became any closer than a normal mentor and apprentice would. Stoatpaw admired Strawtail, but never considered him a particularly close friend. Stoatpaw remained especially close to Briarpatch and Blackbreeze, and was always excited and eager to go on hunting and border patrols with them. Though he never spoke it, Stoatpaw grew determined to protect them and others he loved, even if he wasn't great at standing up for himself.

||Warriorhood||

Stoatpad became a warrior after a successful hunting assessment, Reedstar naming him after how silent and sure his steps were, at the traditional age of 12 moons. Stoatpad allowed himself a bit of pride, but his new status never got to his head, only working further to help the Clan. He remained unusually close to his two mothers, though he certainly wasn't babied by them any longer (aside the occasional motherly lick to his head by Briarpatch). It was only recently after the rivers were starting to dry, though no concern had reached WindClan yet, that Stoatpad received his first apprentice, Cricketpaw. Needless to say, Stoatpad was (and still is) a young warrior, surprised to have been chosen by Reedstar to have an apprentice, though she assured him the choice was right.

Stoatpad admittedly had some trouble keeping Cricketpaw in line, lacking the sternness required to keep the apprentice's recklessness fully at bay, and his paws were always full dealing with one thing or another. The beginning of the apprenticeship in particular ran Stoatpad ragged, enough for him to doubt his abilities as a mentor to think about giving Cricketpaw to someone more experienced, but a slight streak of stubbornness (as well as attachment to his apprentice) ultimately caused him to abandon such thoughts. Training grew easier as Cricketpaw aged, though Clan life itself grew tougher as prey grew more scarce, and disease began to spread through the ranks.

Though thankfully the disease left his family untouched, both Briarpatch and Blackbreeze were up in age, and when the Clans decided to leave, they decided to remain. Stoatpad was devastated by this news, though respected their decision and held no grudge, wishing them a quiet, but loving farewell before leaving. The loss of his family, so central to his being, was hard on the young warrior, and grew troubled and disheartened during the first part of the journey, though took some solace in his continued relationship with Cricketpaw, beginning to view the other more like a younger brother than an apprentice as Cricketpaw neared the age to become a warrior. His cheerful demeanor was dampened, more quiet and kept to himself, though he was always careful to bring up a smile whenever he interacted with anyone- though masks falter.

Nettleback, Cricketpaw's mother as well as a close friend of Briarpatch and Blackbreeze, felt for the young warrior as well, and took on an almost motherly role, appreciating how well Cricketpaw was being treated. Stoatpad appreciated the gesture, and grew closer to Nettleback.

Stoatpad had noticed a few apprentices from other Clans being named during the journey, and was confident in Cricketpaw's abilities, enough to go out of his way to suggest to Reedstar holding a ceremony as well. Reedstar rejected the offer, the Clan too busy and preoccupied with other troubles, but Stoatpad attempted to hold his ground for the first time, pushing for Cricketpaw's warrior ceremony once more before Reedstar gave him a solid, stern, no. This frustrated the warrior, but he showed only hopefulness that Reedstar would come around to his apprentice.

Stoadpad experienced relatively few dangers of the mountain firsthand, until towards the end of the Journey, a rock had dislodged from the cliff-side with the constant movement of the cats moving, triggering a rock slide directly in front of him. Cricketpaw, who had been walking in front of him as well, was directly in the path of the falling rocks, and Stoatpad received his characteristic folded ear pushing Cricketpaw out of the way to save him, one of the rocks clipping Stoatpad's ear and breaking the cartilage, unable to be healed properly. This strengthened his relationship with the whole family, and found himself considering himself one of them. The thought cheered him up greatly, and Stoatpad began to return to his old self.

Currently Stoatpad is more than eager to settle in the Fjords, the home more reminiscent to how their old territory used to have been before the Drought. Though he loves the open moors, the ocean itself causes him some unease, being even bigger than the lake. He's mostly happy to be finding routine and not have to worry about figuring out where to sleep once more.

About

Personality:

+ || Amiable || If Stoatpad is anything, it's friendly. He greets everyone with a smile, is easy to get along with, and rarely shows any bad moods he may have. He does his best to respect other cats' boundaries, and his personality can be a bit malleable because of his desire to be on everyone's good side.

+ || Optimistic || This goes for situations as well as cats. He always hopes for the better outcome in any situation, and sees the best in anycat, and will forgive again and again because of this trait. This also means he gets disappointed a fair amount, but he also appears to bounce back quickly and without much damage done to his viewpoint. Some stubbornness can also come from his determination to see the best.

+ || Caring || Stoatpad gets attached very easily. If any cat shows him an act of particular kindness, he is theirs. He'll go out of his way to return any kindness, and gets protective as well. Basically he lives with a pretty big heart on his sleeve and acts accordingly.

> || Flighty || Conflict stresses him, so Stoatpad prefers flight rather than fight. He's not nervous constantly, but he can get spooked and startled easily.

> || Mellow || Stoatpad's friendliness and cheer is definitely not the sort to be in your face. He's rather laid back, and it's more of a vibe he gives off than actual action. He doesn't rile easily, and simply would rather be calm and relaxed about most things than get actively up in arms about it.

> || Unaggressive || Much more likely to talk things out than attack, Stoatpad is more of a peacekeeper than anything else, and hates conflict, though mostly in the verbal sense. He's keen on smoothing over situations, if only to relax himself (any internal clan aggression or arguments gets him a bit stressed out).

-  || Pushover || The one thing Stoatpad lacks is the ability to stand up for himself. He's a people pleaser through and through, and will bend and twist in any way to keep things pleasant between him and another cat, even if he strongly disagrees or doesn't particularly want to do what is required for the approval. He's not one to hold his side of an argument long, even with strong opinions, and will back out of a lot of such things.

-  || Easily Discouraged || Optimist about others, Stoatpad in contrast is easily disappointed in himself and though he strives to improve, he's also quick to dismiss his abilities to. He's very self critical, which means he's pretty easily discouraged from doing things for his own benefit.

-  || Forgetful || Stoatpad bounces around a lot to make cats happy, but this also means he tends to bite off more things than he can chew, and comes off as rather forgetful because of that. He'll promise 10 things, and be so busy he'll forget to do half of them. They're small promises, like checking in with the medicine cat the next day or etc, but the forgetfulness is still there. He doesn't mind being reminded.

Likes: Making others happy, relaxing, windy days
Dislikes: Dense underbrush, damp anything

Other Information:
-Basically got himself adopted into Nettleback's family, considers himself a sort of older brother to Cricketpaw and Owlpaw. Nettleback is his New Mom.
-He's got 4 moms how fuckin cool is that.
-Though he's fluffy everywhere he's particularly unkept around his face and neck. No amount of grooming will keep it down. Briarpatch has tried.

Roleplay

Excerpt from a roleplay with Cobalt-dogs

Thawslip listened to Speckledstorm’s words with a quiet, controlled silence, her expression unchanging as well, though her focus was entirely on Speckledstorm, looking away only to make sure they were staying on the path and away from any obstacles or edges. The words, though harsh initially, were what Thawslip’s expected, and she appreciated the honestly of the she-cat. Most would’ve sugar-coated and fluffed up their words, if not lied altogether, and though the words were not the best the silver tabby could hear, she was pleased, even happy, with Speckledstorm.

It took a long moment for Thawslip to finally reply, “I suppose that’s all I can ask for.” Her tone remained quiet, thoughtful more than solemn, and brought her gaze back forward, finally. She could feel for her Clan- she felt the same after all, but this would never be something she could speak of, “We have survived being driven away from the Clans, we have sprung up from nothing, and returned,” She looked to the sky for a moment, before bringing her gaze back down, “We will make it through this, even if no other Clan does. If trust is all we can do, I will make it pay off.”
